Arm players and coaches with practical knowledge that leads to immediate and lasting improvements in jump height, vertical speed, and landing impact.
Coach Gil will start with foundational instruction on how the body transforms elastic energy into vertical power. He will explore the critical connections from the feet to the fingertips and how each part of the body contributes to launching off the ground during a volleyball attack or block.
The athletes will be led through a mobility circuit focused on thoracic, ankle and hip mobility along with arch support.
Finally, athletes will perform unique, volleyball-specific drills to work on jump AND landing performance. Every jump and landing will be measured live for real-time feedback and changes that can be objectively demonstrated.
Athletes will be tested following their training for a maximal jump score. Testing results will be live to promote effort, competition and comradery.
Achieve the same goal—improvement in movement efficiency—this time focused on the first step toward the ball.
Athletes will be tested on their first-step explosiveness, measuring peak speed and the angles at which they achieve that speed. This testing is a completely novel approach to understanding how an athlete accelerates to the ball, and what changes can be made for objective improvement on the court.
David Gil has a diverse background in exercise science, physiology, and communications. His passion for applied anatomy and human biomechanics has driven him to lead research and development at VERT Sports, a pioneer in IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) performance monitoring. He also consults for companies across the sports performance, military, and rehabilitation sectors. Additionally, David manages the analysis data for VERT’s extensive portfolio of more than 500 national, professional, and elite collegiate clients.
Beyond product development, David oversees video and biomechanical analysis for VERT’s premier programs, ensuring optimal athletic performance and injury risk reduction. Leveraging the versatility of IMU platforms, he has designed and implemented athletic assessments that are now used by top collegiate and professional programs to gain actionable insights into sports performance and identify inefficient movement patterns.
David regularly travels across the country, sharing his innovative approach to coaching and education through clinics for coaches and players. His programs emphasize the details of both vertical and horizontal movement, helping participants make immediate and lasting improvements in performance and health.
David’s work, along with that of his team, has significantly influenced how volleyball is trained worldwide.
Before joining VERT, David owned a fitness facility specializing in Olympic lifting, mobility, movement mechanics, and physiotherapy.
His primary focus has always been, and continues to be, helping athletes stay in the game they love by teaching proper movement and health habits from a young age. For elite clients, David emphasizes training load strategies to minimize overuse injuries and optimize performance.
